Frozen Cranberry Margarita with Sugared Cranberries

Some drinks announce themselves before you’ve even taken a sip. This is one of them.

Deep crimson, frost-rimmed and finished with sugared cranberries that catch whatever light is in the room — this Frozen Cranberry Margarita is the kind of drink that makes people stop mid-conversation and ask what it is. Which is always a good sign.

Underneath all that drama is something surprisingly simple. Fresh cranberries, lime, Cointreau and tequila, blended over ice until smooth and poured into a sugar-rimmed glass. The sugared cranberries take five minutes and do more work than any garnish has a right to.

I’ll admit I was sceptical about frozen drinks in colder weather. But there’s something quietly luxurious about something icy and jewel-bright when you’re warm indoors — especially at this time of year. It works for a crowd poured into a punch bowl, or just as happily made for one by the fire.

The kind of cocktail that feels like a celebration. Even when there’s no occasion at all.

What You’ll Need to Make Frozen Cranberry Margarita with Sugared Cranberries:

Here’s the magic mix that makes this Frozen Cranberry Margarita unforgettable:

  • Tequila: Choose a good-quality blanco tequila for a smooth, crisp finish.
  • Cointreau or Triple Sec: A splash of orange liqueur that beautifully enhances the flavours.
  • Fresh Cranberries: Tangy, vibrant, and full of festive flair.
  • Cranberry Juice: Provides a fruity, tart base for the cocktail.
  • Lime Juice: Freshly squeezed for that perfect sharpness.
  • Granulated Sugar: Sweetens the drink and creates those sparkling sugared cranberries.
  • Orange Zest: Adds a bright and citrusy twist.
  • Ice: Plenty of it to give your margarita that luscious frozen texture.
  • Rosemary Sprigs & Sugared Cranberries: Add the ultimate festive garnish for a stunning presentation.
  • Salt (or Sugar): Use it to rim the glass – salt creates a delightful contrast to the sweetness.

With these ingredients, you’ll have a drink that’s not just delicious but also a true showstopper!

How to Make Your Frozen Cranberry Margarita with Sugared Cranberries

Creating this fabulous drink couldn’t be easier! Follow these simple steps for a cocktail that’s as festive as it is delicious:

  1. Gather Your Ingredients
Start with good-quality tequila, cranberry juice, Cointreau (orange liqueur), freshly squeezed lime juice, fresh cranberries, sugar, and a touch of orange zest. Don’t forget the salt (or sugar) for rimming your glasses – it’s the little details that elevate the experience.
  2. Prepare the Glasses
Rim each glass with salt or sugar for that extra-special touch. It’s a small step but makes a big difference, especially during festive occasions.
  3. Blend Everything Together
Grab your cocktail blender and load it up with ice. Add the tequila, cranberry juice, Cointreau, lime juice, fresh cranberries, sugar, and orange zest. Then, blend until smooth and frosty.
  4. Serve and Enjoy
Pour the luscious mixture into your beautifully rimmed glasses. The dark red colour is stunning and instantly sets the tone for a celebratory drink.
  5. Optional Finishing Touches
For an extra festive flourish, garnish with sugared cranberries and a sprig of rosemary. Sugared cranberries are incredibly simple to make – just coat them with maple syrup, roll them in sugar, and let them dry for a sparkling effect. They add a touch of glamour and a subtle sweetness to your drink.
