Ingredients to Make Orange and Grapefruit Zing Smoothie
With a handful of ingredients you can create a delicious and nutritious blend:
- Navel Oranges: is the primary citrus component that adds a naturally sweet and tangy flavour to the smoothie. these oranges have a thick, bright orange skin and are a sweet, juicy fruit.
- Pink Grapefruits: Juicy grapefruit juice complements the oranges, adding a refreshing tartness to the blend.
- Ginger: A small piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated, provides a warm and slightly spicy kick that enhances the overall taste profile.
- Raw Turmeric: I prefer fresh turmeric that looks very similar to – ginger. It’s more pungent and has an earthy, bitter, and slightly peppery taste. But if you can’t find fresh, ground turmeric works just fine in this smoothie. Here’s the equivalent: 1-inch fresh turmeric = 1 tablespoon fresh grated turmeric = 1 teaspoon ground turmeric.
- Cayenne pepper: adds a kick of heat, and to top it cayenne is regarded as a fat burner since it can help curb cravings and boost metabolism.
- Milk: Any milk works in this smoothie, but since we’re going for vegan option here, I recommend a non-dairy milk. Choose from options such as almond milk, or oat milk.
- Sweetener: a drizzle of sugar, agave, maple syrup or honey
- Ice: Adding a handful of ice cubes helps to chill and thicken the smoothie to the desired consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions??
1] Fresh or Dried Turmeric??
When it comes to using turmeric, you have two options: fresh or dried. Sometimes one is better for cooking and the other for blending into drinks. But it all really depends on how punchy a flavour you want.
Fresh Turmeric has orange flesh that’s earthy, bitter, and slightly peppery. With a more pungent flavour overall compared to dried turmeric.
Dried Turmeric had a very strong colouring which makes it perfect for sautés and curries. But for this smoothie i prefer the raw turmeric.
2] Can you use regular milk?
Any milk works in this smoothie, but since we were going for a vegan smoothie, I recommend oat-milk.
3] Will grapefruits make the smoothie bitter?
This smoothie isn’t bitter from the grapefruit like you might expect. Just make sure you remove as much of the pith as possible, as that’s what makes the smoothie bitter. If storing leftovers of the smoothie, give it a good shake or a little blend again before serving.
