Nothing screams summer like spending a your holidays with your parents in Indian eating mangoes. Across India, summer is the season people look forward to for a plethora of reasons, and probably the foremost of which is for mangoes ! You will find their sweet aroma everywhere you go. From homes to street corners and even in the expansive fields of the heartlands. From supermarkets to street vendors, they all sell several varieties of mangoes such as Alphonso, Kesar, Dasheari etc.
The most popular of these is the Alphonso, which comes from Maharashtra region. It is known as the King of mangoes due to its, vibrant skin, rich, creamy, tender texture and delicate, non-fibrous, juicy pulp. It is the most popular mango across both India and the world wide. Whilst mangoes are an absolutely divine fruit on their own, adding it to a dessert – elevates that dish too.
Why Mango Tiramisu??
As a child, on hot summer days, I would always look forward to my mother’s Mango Shrikhand – an Indian delicacy made with hung yoghurt. Despite my love for Shrikhand, my kids never developed the same admiration for it. So I kept tinkering with it to make it more interesting and appealing to their palate. I eventually decided to create a tropical fruit based tiramisu with it and soon enough I had a bonafide hit on my hands and now this is one of their favourite dessert.
The juicy mangoes paired perfectly with the crunchy Savoiardi biscuits whilst the combination of mascarpone and hung-curd provided the perfect balance between sweet and sour, ensuring that the sweetness in the dish isn’t too overpowering.

What is Tiramisu?
Tiramisu is an elegant and rich coffee based layered Italian dessert. Made with delicate ladyfinger biscuits, mascarpone cheese, instant coffee, eggs, sugar, Marsala wine, rum, and cocoa powder. The name tiramisù is an Italian word, meaning “pick me up” or “cheer me up.” And it is the perfect way to describe this rich and decadent Italian dessert.
This mango tiramisu is my adaptation to my mum’s Shrikhand recipe. It is the perfect no-bake summer dessert made with fresh Mangoes, Savoiardi biscuits, Greek style yoghurt and mascarpone! This tropical twist to the classic tiramisu is fresh, light, beautiful and is made without using either coffee or eggs!
How to serve Mango Tiramisu?
You can serve Mango Tiramisu in individual glasses for a classy and elegant look, when entertaining friends and family. Or you can make it in a springform cake pan for big parties! How ever you choose to serve it easy mango tiramisu is super delicious and perfect tropical dessert for summer.
Helpful tips and tricks for making this Mango Tiramisu:
- Use Savoiardi biscuits as they are crisp with a sugary top and will soften as the tiramisu sets. It’s also important not to soak them but only dip them briefly into the mango juice.
- You can also dip the biscuits in coffee as in traditional tiramisu. If you decide to dip them in coffee, make sure it is cold and be quick when doing it. Also don’t let them soak up way too much liquid. If you do, they will turn soggy within seconds and we don’t want that.
- The tiramisu will taste best if you use ripe Alphonso mangoes, but they should not be over-ripe or mushy. If Alphonso mangoes are not available, you can use alternate varieties.
- Do not substitute the Mascarpone cheese with cream cheese as it changes the flavour of the tiramisu. Mascarpone cheese is an Italian cream cheese that tastes like cream and has a smooth consistency.
- It is essential to hang the yoghurt to remove excess water or else it will make the tiramisu very mushy.
- If you want to take out your tiramisu from the loaf tin easily, use aluminium foil to line the tin.
In our house, summer only officially begins with a bowl of mango tiramisu. I’m sure that soon enough it will become as much of a tradition for you as it is for me!!!
