Let’s spice things up a bit with this incredibly easy and extra tasty Spicy Greek feta cheese dip! This rustic, ethnic Greek dish, is spicy, rich in terms of texture and great for every occasion. We are all constantly looking for quick and simple appetisers that can be whipped up in no time at all. Specially when you are hosting a party or having a few friends over for a game night. This feta cheese dip takes only 10 minutes to make and you are done! If you love feta cheese, this dip is definitely for you.

This Spicy Feta Cheese Dip is also knows as “Tirokafteri” in Greece, which means “spicy cheese” and every Island or region has its own variations but the two ingredients that are common to them all are salty feta cheese and spicy peppers. It is commonly eaten as part of a mezze platter, or by itself, with warm crusty bread or pita bread.

What Is Feta Cheese:

Authentic feta is a soft and crumbly brined cheese from Greece traditionally made with sheep’s milk. Feta has been around for centuries, and Greek meal incorporates feta cheese in some manner or the other. It is lower in fat and calories than aged cheeses such as cheddar or Parmesan and has more calcium and Vitamin B than soft cheeses such as ricotta or cottage cheese.

Feta cheese has a very dense and crackling texture and is very salty. To obtain a creamy and dip-like texture, we process the feta cheese together with the Greek yogurt. This will help soften its texture and turn it into a creamy and very smooth sauce.

Since this Greek dip is a SPICY cheese dip, so don’t skimp on the heat and remember that the yoghurt and cheese will remove a lot of the spice. There are many hot pepper options like Anaheims, Jalapeños, habanero, birds eye chilli and many more. I love to use fresh birds eye chilli and red pepper flakes. I personally love spicy food, so I choose to make this recipe a bit spicier but you can certainly temper the spice level according to your taste.

Prepare it for your friends as an appetiser over a glass of white wine and dig into it along with our Layered Hummus Dip.

Helpful tips and tricks to make Greek Feta Cheese Dip:

  • Use whole milk Greek yogurt – while you can use fat free, you will not get the same creamy result
  • Feta cheese provides a lot of flavour to the dip and a higher quality one will give the dip a great sharp and tangy flavour.
  • If you want your dip to be creamy and luxurious you can add the Greek yogurt and feta cheese to a food processor and blend till homogenous. Then add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
  • You can use, pickled peppers in this recipe if you can’t find fresh ones – they taste as amazing. Ratio is 4 pickled jalapeños to 1-2 fresh birds eye chilli. It doesn’t matter what colour the chilli peppers are.
  • You can use this spread as a salad dressing, but just whizz in 1/4 cup of water in the food processor.
  • Although you can serve immediately on making, to get the best flavours, it is best to keep this in the refrigerator for an hour.
  • Don’t forget that after cooling it, it will become a little denser.
